Variety reports:

Disney has signed Francis Lawrence (”Constantine”) to helm fantasy-adventure “Snow and the Seven,” with Scott Rudin and Andrew Gunn producing.

The live-action project inspired by the “Snow White” fairy tale focuses on a British girl raised in 19th-century Hong Kong who realizes her destiny is to conquer an evil force. She then prepares to fight by training with seven Shaolin monks.

Project was first penned by Josh Harmon and Scott Elder; Scott Moore and Jon Lucas wrote the latest draft.

Disney said “Snow and the Seven” is a working title and will change. It’s planning to start shooting next year, probably in China.

Yuen Woo-ping is the fight choreographer. Anthony Wong and Dede Nickerson are exec producing.

Lawrence broke into the business directing musicvideos and made his feature debut with “Constantine.” He’s in post-production on “I Am Legend,” starring Will Smith.

Hey Disney and Lawrence…Ever heard of doing something ORIGINAL!?!!?!?!?! This is over the line for me. The beloved, 1st full feature Disney film being turned into an action movie?
