“Give it to us raw and wiggling!”
While our world is saturated with sequel and prequel movies, there may just be one that could be worth watching…
A few days ago IESB reported that Saim Raimi (Spiderman director) is highly considering the directing job for “The Hobbit.” Hopes were high that Peter Jackson would return and run the show, due to the amazing job he did with the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy.
Well, the good news is that Peter Jackson more than likely will be producing for the film. Jackson has sued New Line over his shares of profit from the first of the 3 films, “The Fellowship of the Ring.” However, things are being patched up nicely there, and Raimi has said before that he would not direct this movie without Jackson’s blessing, so it looks good for him being aboard.
Personally, I don’t know about the decision to use Raimi for this project at all. He has made a few good movies, but after “Spiderman 3″ how can we really trust him with a project like this? You see a decline in the Spiderman movies the way we have, and I just don’t have a lot of faith this will work well. What has Raimi really accomplished to earn him this directors seat?
To me, the only hope is for Jackson to make it work, on the production side, and hope that Raimi doesn’t completely screw up the brilliance that Jackson made with one of the greatest trilogy’s of all time.

Didn’t they already do a cartoon version of the Hobbit.
Not sure that we need Raimi doing another one.
Think Spiderman
“The Hobbit” was thirty years ago, so…
I don’t have a huge interest in seeing The Hobbit, although I think Raimi could do as decent a job as anyone. I’m not sold on the idea that he’s “over” just yet because of SM3.
But DAMN. I love that picture of Gollum! Did you guys make that, because it’s pretty spectacular. Of course, my Photoshop skills are somewhere in between “childlike” and “retarded basset hound”, so…
Although Ray could create something of this sort(he’s pretty good at that stuff), we can’t take credit for this one. Pretty funny though, huh?
My question, though, as I asked in the post, was WHY does Raimi deserve to do this movie?
There is a huge fan base for these films/stories, and it is going to be on of the “go see” movies of some summer to come.
It will be a big blockbuster film, and I just wish it wasn’t going to someone who has just a “decent” movie making record.
