A Creature Remake

My of my favorite horror movies of all time, “The Creature From the Black Lagoon” is the next classic movie to get the remake treatment.

This could almost be as big of a travesty as the “Halloween” remake, in my eyes.  The Creature may be the coolest looking monster ever in a horror movie.  He gave off a feeling of pain and isolation that made him capable of almost anything.  In the end though, I think most people ended up feeling sad for the Creature, as it appeared that his motive were more defencive than mean.  He was the last of a kind and he was just trying to survive, before they got him.

The movie provided some great scenes.  The opening of the movie is excellent.  I can only imagine people seeing the movie for the first time and seeing the Creature’s hand emerge onto the rock.  What a great movie moment.

Another moment the will always remain a classic is the swimming scene.  It is were the creature sees Julie Adams character for the first time and seem to be very curious of the beautiful woman.  Leading him to follow her and mirror her swimming.  What a creepy scene.

Not alot is know of the remake at this time.  It’s due sometime next year and will be directed by Breck Eisner (”Sahara”) and written by Gary Ross (”Big”, ”Pleasantville”, and “Seabiscuit”).  Currently the only cast member is Brian Steele (”Hellboy” and ”Doom”) as the Creature.

There has been some talk of filming the movie in 3-D and showing it in IMAX theaters.  They were going to remake this in 3-D in 1982, but the studio didn’t want to compete with “Jaws 3-D” which was also being released that summer.  Peter Jackson passed on remaking this last year and instead opted to remake ”King Kong”.

If you haven’t seen the original I suggest you go out and by it.  It is a horror/ sci-fi classic and should be in everybody’s movie collection.

Here is the original trailer for the original movie.

The Creature looks pretty pathetic in those clips.

One of my faves is “The Creature Walks Among Us.” Very creepy, and very sad.

halloween as i understand it, is not a remake…

the creature though…hmm…it can be done well.

I have my fingers crossed…but i know that once again…nothing good can come of either.

    Sadly.

But at least i’ll have more to review on my super duper horror movie blog.

It makes me sad that Hollywood can’t come up with anything original. It seems like all we write about are remakes and the rape of our childhood.

    Sad indeed.

@ Sir Jorge - Actually “Halloween” is a remake/reimaging, it just depends on what kind of mood Rob Zombie is in. Somedays he says it’s a remakes, other days it’s a reimagining.

Rob Zombie can suck my balls.
