Will Potter Be Shaken, Not Stirred?
Daniel Radcliffe has turned into a respectable young actor. While he may not have the most raw talent among the performers of his generation, he certainly shows a willingness to stretch himself and learn the craft. That’s more than I can say for Rupert Grint, for instance.
With the Potter series closing in on its seventh and final film, Radcliffe has been bombarded with wildly divergent projects. And while it seems that Radcliffe’s career choices outside of the boy wizard’s saga have been slightly eclectic, he may be on the verge of taking on another comparably huge franchise.
Word has it that Radcliffe and his team are negotiating to star as a young James Bond.
The films would be based on the Young Bond books by Charlie Higson. The original books dealt with Bond’s formative years in college in the 1930’s, although the studio wants to retrofit the stories to match the current tone and era of the Daniel Craig series.
If this comes to pass, it’s an absolutely brilliant move. Not only could Radcliffe pass as a younger Craig, but he also has the intensity and seriousness that characterized Craig’s take on the famous agent. As far as the Bond audience is concerned, Radcliffe would draw an entire generation of young viewers into a franchise to which they have had little exposure.
I think it’s a terrific idea … what about you?

I think this is a cool idea. Imagine the possibilities. You could altermate films between Radcliff’s Bond and Craig’s and really get a sense of what he is about and where he came from.
It could really make the Craig Bond soooo interesting.
This would be a huge move for young Harry. This kid is going to be the richest, most successful dude on the planet. Plus think about all the old poon he will get. The old ladies will be all over him.
Um, Eric … I’m pretty sure the young ladies will want a crack at him, too. I realize he’s British, but still .. rich, young, thin, and decent looking means young poon and old poon.
And 40 year old fags.
Oddly, I could see it. My question though would be…What happens if Craig leaves the role? Would Radcliffe work as a young James Bond in the Pierce Brosnon or Roger Moore mold? Could he do the less serious, cracking-wise, alcohol fueled Bond? Or, would his fate be tied to that of Craig, in that so long as the Craig-style Bond continues, Radcliffe keeps the role?
@ dreamrot - Great questions! I can see them doing some sort of “alternative universe Bond” with Radcliffe, although I wouldn’t personally like that.
I think, like every other actor that has taken the role, Radcliffe should be allowed to make Bond his own, without any ties to Craig’s version.
What an amazing chance for Radcliffe. Not that he needs any more chances. Monetarily, he’s better off than any current young actor for the rest of his life.
I LOVE him for the role of a young Bond. Just the idea of these movies is kind of cool for some reason. I can’t explain why. But for comparison: Making a young Hannibal Lecter movie wasn’t a great idea, but a young Bond appeals to me.
Cool off Sam. Those balls aren’t THAT big!
