Robert Jordan is Dead
The beloved author and mastermind of the Wheel of Time series, Robert Jordan, passed away September the 16th.
Robert Jordan, the pen name of James Oliver Rigney, Jr. had been struggling with a long and hard battle with amyloidosis. He passed away this past Sunday at the Mayo clinic in Rochester, Minn at approximately 2:45 p.m. EDT. He was only 58 years old.
Though his Conan the Barbarian and Fallon series of books were successful, what he will be remembered for the most is his Wheel of Time series. The 12th and final book, with the working title A Memory of Light, lies uncompleted. Jordan worked up until his death on this last installment, and although it is unfinished, he shared all major plot points with his family not long before he died. As fans, we can only hope that his presence is felt on the pages of what is to be a monster book, that Jordan estimated could be as long as 1500 pages!
This has been an amazing series of books. Not since The Lord of the Rings has their been such creativity and detail put into such a compelling story. I have found myself unable to put these books down from cover to cover while reading them. Once you are done with the first book, The Eye of the World, you know what I mean. Movie rights for the franchise have been purchased by a company called Red Eagle Entertainment. It would be one of the biggest projects any motion picture company has taken on, but if accomplished, it would be amazing on the big screen.
I find myself greatly affected by Jordan’s passing. This is one of the greatest fantasy series ever written, and it is sad that this great author is no longer in our presence. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Robert Jordan’s family.
To Robert Jordan: Thanks for sharing with us the beauty and magic you brought by way of paper and pen. Thanks for letting us see what you saw. Rest In Peace my friend.

Don’t you mean JRR Tolkien?
Oh ,wait - Jordan’s just a pale imitator.
Fuck me running! This is a catstrophe. I’ve been reading the Wheel of Time series since the very beginning back in the early ’90s. When I was in the Navy, my shipmates and I wore out 2 copies of the first 4 books passing them around during a 6-month deployment. And Ray, I call bullshit. If you say he’s just a pale imitator of Tolkein, I bet you haven’t read this series. It’s a masterpiece.
@ryk: I actually gave Ray the first book, The Eye of the World. He read the first chapter and STOPPED. That was 6 months ago!!! Your bullshit call was dead on my friend!
@ray: read the damn book. Jordan gives Tolkien a run for his money.
@ ryk - the only thing worn out among you and your navy shipmates were, of course, your assholes. During that intolerably long first chapter I spotted approximately 1,500 direct rips from Lord of the Rings. I was waiting with bated breath for two short guys to start repeatedly pledging their undying love for each other.
Sure, Tolkien gets all the originality points. He pretty much created the genre, but that doesn’t mean it ends with him too. If you’ll read the damn book like KC said, you’ll find that Jordan is a much better storyteller than Tolkien. If you can get half-way through the first book, you’ll be hooked.
Agreed. Ray, I challenge you to read the first book in its entirety. Come on, when’s the last time you read a book? You need to stop fooling around with that silly internet and expand your mind with the good ole wheel of time
