Who’s Missing From The Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame?

With the most recent Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominees being announced.  I realized that a lot of great artist have been getting the snub.  So, I ask you who deserves to go in?  Here are some of my choices.

Metallica - This was the first year that they were eligible and they didn’t even get nominated.  What the fuck.

Willie Nelson -  It may be call the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but all genres of music are represented.  Hank Williams and Johnny Cash are in, so how do they leave Willie Nelson out.  He is was of the greatest songwriters of all time and he is also one of the most genuine singers ever to be recorded.

Tina Turner - She is in as a duo with Ike, but I think she deserves to go in as a solo artist.  Her gritty, sexy voice and her amazing performances alone should be enough to get her in.  It seems to me that she had more hit singles than Isaac Hayes and he’s in.

Dolly Parton - One of the greatest country singers of all time.  How can they ignore songs like Coat of Many Colors, Jolene, I Will Always Love You, Here You Come Again, and 9 To 5.  She is a legend and the only country female in is Brenda Lee.

Kiss - Like them or not, they are one of the most successful rock bands of all time.  Their songs may be dumb, but at the same time they are fun rock anthems.

Ozzy - Ozzy career may be a joke now, but when he first went solo be produced some great heavy metal songs.  He career has held up and he is the Godfather of Heavy Metal.  The should be in.

Patsy Cline - Like Dolly Parton, I don’t know how they miss her.  She is one of the originators of the traditional country sound.  She did things in music that most woman just couldn’t do and she did it in a short time.

Judas Priest - These guys were one of the most influential metal bands of all time.  They also created the classic metal look.

Carly Simon - She was one of the most popular artist of the 70’s.   Her music was straight from the heart and she held no punches.  Her influence on woman singer/songwriters alone should have made her a lock by now.

Journey - Don’t laugh.  For about 14 years, they were one of the biggest and best rock and roll bands in the world.  They were kind of like an America version of Queen.  Only less gay.

Genesis - This band was on top of the world for 3 decades, with both Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins.  Again how do you overlook a band like this.  I mean fuck, Jackson Browne is in.

Boston - They have the fastest selling debut album of all time.  The epitomized the arena rock sound.

Doobie Brothers - Great musicianship, great songs, great band.  They should be in.

Heart - The greatest female duo in music.  They rock as hard as any other band in the 70’s.  The song writing was perfect.  You can’t beat Ann Wilson’s soulfully powerful voice and the great guitar playing of Ann Wilson.

INXS - These guys were the next Rolling Stones.  The only difference, they may have been better.  They were huge around the world thanks to Michael Hutchence’s charisma the bands great song writing.  This band would have probably been even bigger than they were had Hutchence’s not hung himself.

Eurythmics - They were one of the most successful duo’s of the 80’s.  Their sound was a mix of pop, rock, r&b, and soul.  They were not as big in the U.S. as they were in the rest of the world, but their influence should not be denied.

Quiet Riot - These guys created the 80’s glam rock sound later known has hair metal.  For good or bad, they deserve to be in.

Ministry - Ministry are the granddaddy’s of Industrial rock.  Without them, you would not have bands like the  Nine Inch Nails, (who will go in. )

Duran Duran - You couldn’t get away from Duran Duran in the 80’s.  They were everywhere, MTV, radio, on t-shirts, and posters. They were the brought the new sound to the mainstreen and made it popular.

Loretta Lynn - Like Dolly and Patsy, she was one of the top female artist in a male dominated country music scene.   She was tough as nails and her songs were at time controversial.  She should be in.

You agree or disagree?  Or do you think I missed somebody?  Add them in the comment section.

Don’t they have a Country Music HOF for Dolly Loretta and Patsy? How much Rock have any of these performers really done?

I will agree with Priest, Genesis, and Eurythmics.

    Oh yeah, maybe Willie too.

Of course I will say Eurythmics.

Beyond them, I agree with Chris that Genesis and Priest go in. Also Metallica, Carly Simon, and Tina Turner.

The rest could be argued in one way or another. Some are more country then rock. Some had a narrow spectrum of influence or skill level. I mean, Duran Duran and INXS had some great songs and popular albums - for about three years. Does that alone make them worthy??

@ Chris - Yeah some of those choices are country, but they put country artist in the RnR HOF. So if you are going to put in country artist, then you have to but in Dolly, Willie, and Loretta.

The one band that is one of the most innovative and talented of all-time is Chicago. It is not the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame without them.

Can anyone explain why the following three groups are not worthy to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?

    1. America

    2. Chicago

    3. The Guess Who

Yes, country & western does not belong in the
    R & R Hall of Fame.

Someone will need to explain to me how CHICAGO can be considered “one of the most innovative bands of all time.”
