The Red Baron Soars Again!
While World War II has been making a comeback thanks to the huge Ken Burns documentary, the amazing feats and technological advances of World War I have not been forgotten.
One of the most famous pilots in aviation history will make a triumphant barrel-roll onto the big screen in February of 2008. A German production company called NIAMA-FILM has been hard at work on an expansive, Pearl Harbor-esque drama detailing the life and death of The Red Baron.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with his story, the fabled Red Baron - real name Manfred von Richthofen - was a German fighter pilot credited with 80 kills during his brief career. He was shot by a single .303 bullet to the heart while in flight. Such was the skill of this notorious and dangerous pilot that he managed to land his plane in the last seconds of his life.
The German-produced film promises some amazing combat footage thanks to glorious CGI from PIXOMONDO. They have released a stunning special effects preview of their work for this dramatic recreation:
While I am sure that the planes of World War I did not fly that thick or that fast, the film looks visually amazing. Hopefully the rest of the flick can live up to that amount of detail and drama.

What an awesome way to show off your capability of using special effects. This looks pretty intense and well shot.
I don’t know much of the Red Baron, but I’ll be seeing this on the big screen for sure.
