Face Is Much Better Than Rod
Before Rod Stewart was wooing the panties off of fat, unmarried old maids and playing elevator music, he was the hard rocking blues singer for Faces.
In 1969, when Rod Stewart and Ron Wood (The Rolling Stones) joined the group Small Faces, they changed the name to just simply Faces and made them a rough, sloppy rock & roll band. A sound that was evidence in the song Stay With Me. This song was raucous, sexy and fun, the way rock ‘n roll should be.
They could give you a blues song and make you fell every word of it, then break it down into some great solos, that really showed the musicianship of the band.
I’m Losing You
They were best know for their live performance and because of that Rod Stewart soon broke out into the spotlight. His voice was powerful and bluesy, his stage presence was amazing and fun. He would just let himself go on stage and people loved the emotion he put into every song, no matter if it was an original or cover. One of their biggest hits was the Beatles cover Maybe I’m Amazed.
Faces could have been as big as the Stones, I think, had they stayed together. Stewart when on to have a great solo career and Ron Wood went on to help create some of the greatest rock songs ever with the Rolling Stones.
I wish we had music like this.
