The Seed That Grew Into An Empire
On this day 79 years ago, the Disney empire was born. Walt Disney produced the first animated short feature film with a completely post-produced soundtrack of music, dialogue, and sound effects. This cartoon was called Steamboat Willie and it also gave birth to the worlds most famous cartoon characters, Mickey Mouse.
The cartoon, at the time, was groundbreaking and shows why Walt Disney always seemed to be ahead of his time. He knew how to make an audience relate to a cartoon. He treated Mickey like a person and we never once thought anything other than that. He also did a great job adding the music, which gave the cartoon more depth.
The best thing about this cartoon is the way Walt portrayed Mickey early on. Long before Mickey was the lovable figure head of a multi gazillion dollar empire, he was kicking the ass of all animals that gave him shit. I love the fact that the animal rights assholes people still get upset by this cartoon. They cry about the way Mickey treated the other animals, saying it’s animal cruelty. Jack-offs like that need to get a life.
If you have never seen Steamboat Willie or just want to watch a great old time cartoon, here it is. The think the animation in this is still much better than most of the cartoons on T.V.
