Best Event of 2007 - Ray’s Pick
I truly hate “best of” lists, particularly when it comes to movies. Even if you’re Rex Reed, and you’ve seen every single piece of celluloid released this year, your subjective opinion means diddly-squat. So there!
However, it’s fairly easy to pick my favorite media news story of 2007. Despite the justifiable pull of important media events like Anna Nicole Smith going belly-up on drugs, or Britney Spears’ latest paparzzi-filled romp through a shopping mall, one media event filled me with unquenchable glee and happiness.
On April 1st, Canadian man-hater Alanis Morrissette - conspicuously absent since her last unpronounceable album - quietly leaked a homemade song and video onto the internet. Her song, a cover of My Humps by Black Eyed Peas, took one of the worst musical compositions ever conceived by upright humans and turned it into a bewilderingly ecstatic parody. It singlehandedly resurrected her dormant career.
If you don’t like this, then you’re a fucking douche bag. And a dumbshit. I hate you if you don’t like this shizzle.

Awesome! I commented on this earlier in the year and it stands as one of the most profoundly effective parodies in video history. I especially liked the terrible sadness that consumes the awful, bubble-gum poppiness of the original. Thanks!
Ummm Ummm Ummm, Alanis and her lovely lady humps. I didn’t like this at first, but it’s grown on me.
That’s hilarious! First time I’ve seen it. (I don’t YouTube much.)
