Parenting 101
The parents of the Earth today received terrible news when it was announced that Lynne Spears’ new parenting book is being postponed indefinitely.
Fortunately, some of the best advice contained within its thoughtfully-arranged pages has been passed on to us here at The Rec Show. Gaze upon these wondrous and wildly beneficial thought nuggets:
Will Horton Hear, Cha-Ching?
Next March, Horton Hears A Who will make it’s way into a new generation of children’s hearts. Horton has always been one of Dr. Seuss’s most well known and beloved books. Horton is a heartfelt story of a big dumb elephant that thinks life exist on a speck of dust, only knowbody believes him. Horton is a perfect example of the innocence and creativity that I think most kids are missing today.
Never Trust The Mullet
The season finale of the T.V. show Survivor aired this past Sunday. The winner was gay flight attendant Todd Herzog. He, however, isn’t the most talked about person from this season’s cast. Mullet-Head, white trash, hoosier, lunch lady extraordinaire Denise Martin has stolen the spotlight.
Lost Again

I feel like a may be beating a dead horse with this, but this is too good to pass up. Over the weekend I posted the teaser trailer for the upcoming fourth season of Lost. Well now Kristin Dos Santos from E! has posted the extended trailer and it is quite good and very telling. So please indulge me and be warned that this may contain some information that you may consider to be spoilers. Season 4 is going to kick fucking ass, that is for sure.
Politics, Religion, and Logic Don’t Mix
Would you want your kids anywhere near Mike Huckabee during Christmas? If Ron Paul has his way, then your kids - and the rest of us - will be safe from the continued sermonizing of American politics.
Blanket, do you have any Chapstick?

Thank you Michael for bringing crazy back. Bored with the talks of writer’s strikes, holidays, and the ‘08 elections, we can always count on Michael Jackson to bring us all back to earth. I hope this makes everyone appreciate what they have … and even what they don’t have (Wacko Jacko for a father).
There are rumors of a New Year’s Eve Jackson 5 reunion show. Though it has not been confirmed, you just know that Dick Clark drooling on himself and Michael Jackson taping up his pee hole could make for an interesting countdown. Can’t wait!
Wall Eats My Heart
There is something that gets me about this new trailer for Pixar’s WALL-E.
What is it?
Hancock Trailer
The trailer for Will Smith’s new movie, Hancock has hit the web. I think this movie is going to be a fun ride from the looks of it. Of course, I like just about anything Smith is in. Check it out after the jump and tell us what you think.
Peter Brady Thinks Lesbians Are Gross
What is wrong with Peter Brady? Peter, whose real name is Christoper Knight, seems to be a little confused. First, until a few years ago, he couldn’t get a job. Well, he did get to do the occasional Very Brady Christmas Special. That was it, though. Then in 2005, VH1 came calling. They wanted him to be on the Surreal Life and he didn’t have anything else to do, so he accepted.
Leader Of The Band Falls Silent
Dan Fogelberg, one of the last of the soft rock icons from the late seventies and early eighties, died today of prostate cancer. He was 56.
Dark Knight To The Imax
Here is a crappy version of that extended IMAX preview of The Dark Knight. This and the preview I saw with I Am Legend give me the impression that this will be a visual feast, but one filled with lame, self-serving dialogue and obvious plotting - basically the same problems and joys I had with Batman Begins.
Weekend Whack Off
You know, media weekends are so slow in the dead of winter during a strike. Fortunately, rubber hands nestling just the right spot can make those cold nights that much better.
I Am Legend - Ray’s Review
The “man alone in a deserted city fighting hyper-vicious zombie/vampires” genre has been done to death (so to speak) over the last several years. They all have as their progenitor the 1954 Richard Matheson novel I Am Legend, which chronicles the last man on earth, Robert Neville, who survives a deadly viral outbreak which wipes out most of humanity, leaving a horde of snarling, cannibalistic creatures that he must try to destroy.
The latest version of this famed science fiction story has finally made a long trek to theaters, bolstered by the ample charisma of leading man Will Smith in the title role.
Lost Season 4

For those of you who are fans of Lost, and if you not you’re an idiot, the official season 4 trailer has been released. Take a look. Read more
The Lost Whisper
Sofia Coppola’s Lost In Translation was a thoughtful but mostly inert meditation on romance and aging, which makes it head and shoulders above anything her father has done in 25 years. However, the film held sway over audiences thanks to Bill Murray’s complex performance, and a romantic little whisper at the very end of the film. That inaudible snippet - which has confounded fans for years - has finally been revealed due to terrific audio processing.

K.C.’s Top 5 Music Videos Of All Time
This was an incredibly hard list to narrow down. For me, I have to really like the song to consider it a great video. Otherwise, I’ll probably be turned off immediately by it. Ray and I were talking about great videos like “Losing My Religion” and “Bedtime Story” that are beautifully shot and full of weird emotion. But for me, I just picked the ones that stirred the most emotion in me, whether it was sadness or violence or if the video’s just freaking hot.
Here are my Top 5 Music Videos Of All Time…
Eric’s Top 5 Music Videos Of All Time
There have been alot of great music videos over the years, well not recently, so trying to pick my top five is very hard. Some have had a huge impact on music Smells Like Teen Spirit or Welcome To The Jungle, but neither are great videos. Others like Losing My Religion and Jeremy made an impact for being socially conscious. Some are just bring back cool memories of our childhood. Whatever the reason, music videos used to be a vital part of the music industry. Here are my top 5 picks.
Ray’s Top Five Videos Of All Time
Music videos today are as relevant as my old KC And The Sunshine Band 8-track cassette. This once amazing art form - one that reshaped popular culture occassionally for the better - has degenerated into superfluousness thanks to worthlessly throwaway songwriting and imagination-free direction.
But once, in some other lifetime, music and music videos had something to say. Here are my top five favorite music videos of all time.
Chris’ Top Five Videos
When we decided to do this I thought it would be easy to pick five videos. It wasn’t. On what criteria is a video the best? Artistic importance? Future influence? Quality of the song itself? I think all of these are important among other things. So I tried to take everything into account and I know that there are some great ones that will be left off of my list. I hope the other guys can pick up my slack there. Read more
RECommended Renting - Order of the Phoenix

This week saw the release of the latest Harry Potter film, Order of the Phoenix, on DVD. Last week saw the completion of me finally reading all seven books. Though I was very much a “Johnny-come-lately” with the Potter series I must say that I was immensely impressed with the experience as a whole. I am not the the complete Potter geek that some maybe(K.C.), so I will not attempt to blow you mind with my knowledge of the history and lexicon. There are few things that I can add that have not already been said about the genius of J.K. Rowling and the world she has created. Read more
