Orwell Got The Date Wrong

January 6, 2008 · Filed Under Corporate Evil, Editorial, Worst of the Worst

big-brother.jpgIn recent months, Republican candidate Ron Paul has been derided in the mainstream media for his attacks against “neocons” and their agenda to create a North American Union and remove the civil liberties and protections once enjoyed by Americans. His ideas have been consistently portrayed as the rantings of the lunatic fringe.

Does he sound like a doom-and-gloom George Orwell crackpot to you?

It turns out he may have a point after all.

Tonight’s Republican debate on FOX - just two days prior to the important New Hampshire primary - will feature five candidates: Rudy “The Lizard” Giuliani, Mike Huckabilly, Mitt “Robot” Romney, Fred “Where The Fuck Am I?” Thompson, and John P.O.W. McCain.

You may have noticed that Ron Paul’s name is conspicuously absent.

The same Ron Paul that managed to garner 10% of the vote in the Ohio primary last week -  the same amount as Giuliani and Thompson combined- is being excluded from the debate. The same Ron Paul who has, in the last quarter of 2007, outraised EVERYONE ELSE in EITHER PARTY is being excluded from the debate. The same Ron Paul who is running for President of the supposed cradle of democracy and freedom - yes, that guy is purposely being excluded from the debate.

These neocon organizations like FOX News claim Paul is wrong for wanting to pull out of places like Iraq because America is there spreading freedom and democracy. How can America bring freedom and democracy to far away places like Iraq when such censorship and intellectual brutality exist on her own soil?

It’s time for people to wake up. We no longer live in an idealisitic 19th century America, where the possibilities seemed endless and invention walked hand-in-hand with liberty. Hell, we don’t even live in 1950’s America, which was the champion of freedom in the world and the light of a new prosperity. This is rapidly becoming Orwell’s America, one in which powerful and corrupt people seize power through mind control and fear tactics. This America silences the rational voices in her in order to continue its own hideous agenda.

Meanwhile, the citizens of America have become the proverbial frog in a pot, blissfully sitting there as the heat rises higher and higher. Someday soon, that water will be boiling. Perhaps it might not be fatal in your lifetime, but what of your children and grandchildren? What type of America will they inherit?

Do something about it!!

@ ray- You know my feelings regarding a Ron Paul presidency, however, nice editorial piece. To play Devil’s advocate for one minute: granted, the American system excludes some from full participation, I must ask though, where do you draw the line? In debates should you allow every half-baked crazy who puts his/her name on a ballot into the debates? Or is some form of exclusion necessary for the functionality of the system? If so, how do you decide who is in and who is out? Percentage of poll support? Media discretion? Frankly, I can see no foolproof way to determine participation. Nor do I really want to hear what some idiot who lives in a cave has to say in a debate.

I am suprised that Mr. Paul was left out of this round, given a decent showing in Iowa and the amont of money he has raised. But, this debate was the networks party. The only way to convince the network to allow a larger field of candidates is to affect their pocketbooks. When in doubt, always go for the wallet.

@ jared - Well, obviously not every nutjob and crackpot can get onto the ballot, because to do so is remarkably expensive and time-consuming.

However, in this case, it is blatantly apparent that FOX is guilty of irrational censorship of a worthy candidate that has outpolled and outgrossed other candidates who were respected enough to be included.

@ Ray - If the nutjobs do not have the money to run then how do you explain Romney? You know that I am all in favor of letting Mr. Paul debate, but you do need to draw a line somewhere, and right now the line is drawn in such a way as to allow only the rich nutjobs a chance to be heard. I say rich or poor a nutjob is a nutjob, get the dumb fuckers off the stage.
