Death Of A Young Star

brad-renfro.jpgActor Brad Renfro was found dead in his Los Angeles home this morning.  He cause isn’t known yet, but his history of drug abuse is more than likely a factor.

Renfro was only 10 years old when he was discovered by director Joel Schumacher for a role in one of 1994’s biggest movies, The Client.  His standout role in the movie led to roles in a few minors roles in 1995 and eventually landed him the role in Sleepers.  He played the younger version of Brad Pitt’s character Michael Sullivan and once again his performance stood out in an all star cast.

Renfro best and most controversial role came in at the age on 16, in Apt. Pupil.  He played the role of a young boy who discovers his neighbor Arthur Denker, played by Ian Mackellan, is a Nazi war criminal.  He then blackmails the man into telling him what it was like during the World War II holocaust and eventually becoming Denker pupil through the disturbing stories.

The movie should have been a major stepping stone for Renfro, but instead his addictions to drugs began and his roles were still ofter, but in minor movies.   Renfro had a minor role in 2005’s The Jacket.  The bizarre military thriller was one of my favorite movies that year, although it wasn’t much of a hit.  The movie was loaded with alot big names (Adrien Brody, Reira Knightley, Daniel Craig), and all though Renfro’s role was small he nailed it like always.

Renfro’s drug addictions plague his one shinning star and he could never break from them.  He struggled to stay clean, but I think as time will tell, they finally got the better of him.  Renfro just wrapped up filming The Informers with Winona Ryder, Mickey Rourke, Billy Bob Thornton and Kim Basinger.  The movie is set for an October release.

Renfro was only 25 years old and that is far to young to die.  This is just another sad case of a young Hollywood talent that falls victim to fame and drugs.

Thanks TMZ.

Awful. This kid had absolutely everything going for him, and he blew it. This might be as big of a loss to young Hollywood as the death of River Phoenix.
