Worst Half Time Performance Ever?

February 4, 2008 · Filed Under Media Report, Music Discussion, Worst of the Worst

paula-abdul.jpgIt’s strange. The Super Bowl has an audience of 95 million (mostly) males of various ages, and yet the organizers behind the yearly most-watched television event cannot understand what type of musical performance best fits the venue.

Case in point: yesterday’s laughable Paula Abdul “performance.”

What guy wants to watch Paula Abdul gyrate on a stage and LIP SYNCH to FOREVER YOUR GIRL??? Or, even worse, that new song she prominently displayed, a dance number without a danceable beat or hummable hook??

I thought it was possibly the limpest thing I had ever seen as a halftime performance, although it may not be the worst overall. That honor might go to one of the following:

The inexplicable 2001 pairing of Aerosmith, N’Sync, Britney Spears, and some rappers:

The misguided 2004 Janet Jackson/Justin Timberlake wardrobe malfunction that exposed Janet’s watery, flaccid, 40-year old tit:

What do you think?

    What was this from?

Tom Petty was the halftime at the Super Bowl I watched yesterday. I never saw Paula Abdul.

Apparently they pre-recorded this abortion for the show. You didn’t see it on there??

No. Although I missed the pre and post game. I just watched from kickoff to the end.

It was part of the pre-game.

Yeah, it sucked. As did the idiotic red carpet idiocy.

    I saw no Paula Abdul.

I think its weird seeing a bunch of kids rush the stage for Tom Petty. Do they even know who they’re running to see?

A guy in a local paper suggested we just show marching bands at half time. Not a half-bad idea. I would much rather watch 15 minutes of a kick ass drum line than this stuff any day.
