Double Standard?
This past Friday night Charles Barkley appeared on CNN and was interviewed by Wolf Blitzer. Barkley spoke his mind and maybe caused an uproar from the Conservative right-wing Christians.
The focus of the interview was politics and Barlkey’s choice to support Barack Obama. Barkley, as usual, was very honest and outspoken on why he supports Obama. His reason was understandable-he sees Obama as a good role model and a friend. Those are pretty acceptable reasons, I think. The problem came when he called Conservatives fake Christians.
That comment was enough to get a few of the uptight, self-righteous, right-wing, gay-hating, jack-ass Conservative Republicans panties in a bunch. This topic has become a big discussion on Conservative talk shows and websites such as ass-bag Chris Stein. As I drove to work this morning, he threw out this interview for discussion. He likened Barkley’s comments to those made by Don Imus a few months back.
Yeah, that’s right. Stein thinks that calling Conservatives fake Christian’s is a bad as calling black women Jigaboo’s and nappy-headed hoes. Then Imus continues to degrade the women. Barkey’s comments were nowhere near as offensive as Imus’s and shouldn’t even be compared. Stein, though, feels that the punishments should be. He suggested that Barkley should lose his job as TNT basketball analyst and that he should lose his endorsement deals.
Stein said these things, of course, as a neutral person who was just starting a debate. He also stated that there probably wouldn’t be any consequences for Barkley because he’s black and there is a double standard on the issue. I don’t beleive that Stein is neutral. His “sport talk show” is always very religious based and from the sound of it, I assume he considers himself a conservative Republican.
His callers, at least the ones I heard, agreed. It was also mentioned that Barkley only supported Obama because both are black. This, of course, is not true. He said he would vote for Hillary Clinton and said that in the past he supported John Edwards. This is just another example of the asshole Conservatives trying to run our lives. They feel that you can have an opinion, only if it’s the same as theirs.
Like him or not, Barkley has always spoken his mind and will give his opinion on anything. Barkley should lose nothing for his comments. If anything, he should gain a lot of respect for not being afraid to speak his mind. The Republicans have tried to bring religion into politics for long enough. They want to tell you how to live your lives and I agree with Barkley. It’s time to get the Republics out of power and get religion out of Politics.
Here is the interview. Do you agree or disagree with Charles? Do you think there’s a double standard in place here?

Charles Barkley is an idiot, but he should be able to say something like this without repercussions. In light of everything else, he’s probably right.
I have no problem with Sir Charles.
