Sounding Presidential
Ray and I were talking the other day about the death of the art of politcal speech writing. It seems that when we were young in times long ago Presidents used to sound “presidential.” It now seems that the present generation doesn’t have much to hold on to; to tell their grandkids, “I remember when he gave that speech, we knew then that we were living in an important time.” Regardless of how any of us feel about our elected officials, it is their words, that in many ways, define our generation.
With tommorows election, a day that will undoubtably “live in infamy,” here are a few important words that defined past genrations.
Now listen to what we’ve been dealing with for that last eight years . . .
Now for something that sounds “presidential” again . . .
Perfectly written, perfectly spoken. Better than mumbling “horseshit” under your breath.
Go Vote!

Hell of a point, Chris. The sad thing is that the Bush video to which you linked only shows a small fraction of Bush’s moments of moronity (new word alert). Entire movies could be fashioned from just his public humiliations.
Also, could Ken Burns actually find a more boring narrator for Lincoln’s magnificent Gettysburg Address???? While I doubt that Lincoln “let ‘er rip” while reciting it, I doubt if he sounded like he just swallowed a cup full of tranquilizers, either. Man, it would have been amazing to hear the man speak those words live. We’re fortunate to even have the words at all, in a speech that I consider one of the finest pieces of American literature.
Hopefully Obama can restore some dignity and intelligence on the order of Lincoln and Kennedy.
With Obama as President just maybe the rest of the world will stop looking at the U.S. as a joke. We need a well spoken and strong minded individual leading this country. It’s true that one man can’t the things by himself, but his leadership will do more to change this world than any President has done for a very long time.
Well, he ain’t elected yet, folks … LOL
Thanks Chris.
