A Slice Of Cake With A Scoop Of Black Sabbath
The band Cake has always been a mystery to me. Their songs are somewhat boring and monotone and yet I have always been a fan. They have just enough catchy distorted guitar riffs, out of place trumpet solos and just enough sarcasm to suck me it. I not even sure it’s meant to be sarcastic, but it is to me. Anyways, they are back, kind of.
It’s been 3 years since the band’s last album, but a new one is on the way. Their next album “B-Sides And Rarities” is due out October 2. The album may not feature new material, but this could be a good collection anyway, after all all of their songs sound like B-Sides. The album will feature a some interesting covers, like Kenny Rogers – “Ruby, Don’t Take Your Love To Town”, ”Mahna Mahna” made famous on the kids show “Sesame Street”, Frank Sinatra – “Strangers In The Night”, Barry White – “Never, Never Gonna Give You Up”.
The also recoded a version of Black Sabbath’s “War Pigs” and had a contest to make the video. Here is the winning video.

The band is no stranger to covers, one of their first hits was a cover of Gloria Gaynor’s “I Will Survive”.

Here is my personal favorite Cake song “The Distance”

THAT was the winning video???? Apparently it was the ONLY video submitted.
Cake has a sound, that’s for sure.
Yeah it wasn’t the best video, by far, but they thought it was the most creative. Whatever. We could have done that.
Man, what a horrible video. I’m with Sam. That had to be the only one submitted.
I’ve always liked Cake as well. They pretty much just ROCK. “Stickshifts and Safety Belts” and “Italian Leather Sofa” are my two favorites.
Great driving fast and drinking music. Just not at the same time kiddies!
