Serenading Unicorn Sells Juicy Fruit

Many companies have spent the last couple of years desperately trying to invent ways to use the brushfire powers of viral marketing to sell products through the internet. Most of the time web users sniff out these attempts before they ever go viral, thwarting their expensive marketing efforts.

But Juicy Fruit has come up with an idea just crazy enough to work. They realized that anything unicorn-related gets attention online, so they recruited a unicorn puppet to lip-sync to romance ballads. Simply titled Serenading Unicorn, the ads are a partnership between Juicy Fruit and the Jim Henson Workshop. You can see the money and skill dripping off the frame thanks to the very high production values and expensive pop songs. While I’m still a bit confused as to how this sells sticks of gum, it sure is mesmerizing.

Penn Between Two Ferns

This latest installment of Between Two Ferns satisfies two curiosities: (1) Can Sean Penn be self-depricating and funny? (2) Can Zach Galifianakis play another type of character besides the awkward, stumbling doofus?

In this episode, Galifianakis plays his gay Southern twin brother Seth as he interviews a grumpy Penn, who plays off of Galifianakis’ routine with ease. It’s deadpan and pretty funny:

My favorite episode of this celebrity-stroking series is the interview between Galifianakis and actress Natalie Portman. Just brilliant stuff.

Full Metal Quack It

This is one of the greatest scenes of any war movie ever made … and someone made it even better by adding Donald Duck to it. Fascinating. And a pretty good imitation, too.

Merengue Dancing Dog

After the abomination of yesterday’s story about that horrible Bosnian cunt drowning puppies, this next one will soothe and refresh the palate.

As we all know, Mexican people do nothing all day except get drunk, rob foreign tourists, and get pregnant all day long because their Pope tells them condoms are the Devil. They also make pretty nice dog trainers, as it turns out. Here we see some authentic Mexican craftsmanship in dog form:

That dog’s pretty good, eh? Better than Kate Gosselin on Dancing With The Stars, anyway. And less of a bitch, to boot.

A Play On Words

Youtube is the basis of a lot of stupid shit. A large majority of the original material uploaded to youtube is made by annoying little teenagers who think the world wants to hear them bitch about how tough life is and say fuck 10 times. Another big majority are people who are really trying to create good entertainment on a budget. Then there’s that small amount of original material that is actually well produced and enjoyable to watch.

This brings me to a couple of videos produced by Radiolab, a nationally syndicated radio program produced in New York City, and broadcast on NPR (Nation Public Radio) stations in the United States. The videos are complex and poignant yet simple and inspiring. The first video was made last year and was simply title “Moments”. The video is a simple look at life and the moments that make it special.

The other and most recent video is entitled, “Words”. It’s a simple and thought provoking play on words. It’s very well cut together and makes you think as you watch it. You will probably have to watch it twice to catch what the filmmaker is doing here. These videos are exceptional and should really inspire the amateur film maker in us all.

By the way, did you catch the eight words that were being described in the video?
