Corey Haim: A Really Lost Boy

I doubt if anyone who saw Corey Haim on the disastrous-but-addictive reality show The Two Coreys is surprised to learn this morning that the former Lucas was found dead of a drug overdose. He spent much of two seasons on the show slurring, throwing tantrums, and crying uncontrollably. The guy was obviously on the edge from something. Now we can confirm it was drugs.

And what a waste. Haim was absolutely adorable in the role of Lucas, a nerd who falls in love with a girl out of his league. Haim had the looks and talent to completely dominate films for years. Unfortunately, Haim found drugs at an early age. Haim was even doing drugs during the shoot for The Lost Boys, his biggest role, and he was what … sixteen years old? Drugs completely evaporated that talent, and left the kid a conceited, hollowed shell that Hollywood quickly discarded. Here he is at this time, denying the drugs that he was obviously on while making this horrible promotional video:

He mostly disappeared for several years before turning up on E! in 2001 completely wasted:

He still had the looks at this point, but his brain was pickled and useless. But as time went on, he physically began to deteriorate. He apparently spent several years slinking around in the underbelly of Hollywood, scoring drugs instead of acting roles.

Then he turned up on that damned Two Coreys show, which was compulsively watchable. Haim’s decline was the primary reason for this, much like craning your neck to see a car wreck. I admired Corey Feldman for standing beside Haim until it was no longer possible; I would’ve told the guy off a long time ago. Ultimately, though, Haim’s drug use and radical mood shifts became too much for the married and stable Feldman, and I don’t blame him one bit for leaving Haim. I can only imagine what Feldman is feeling today. Hopefully he doesn’t use this as a publicity stunt much like his Michael Jackson bullshit from last year.

Anyway, Corey Haim is dead, and nobody’s surprised. But for the generation that saw this cute little kid with the big eyes and bright smile, there is a twinge of sadness that Hollywood killed another child actor. Taylor Lautner, you’re next!!

First Look at Lost’s 5th Season

DarkUFO they have gotten a hold of the first trailer for the fifth season of Lost. While there is not a whole lot of new footage there is some. It is mostly a recap of the events of Season 4. One note: Does the editing and wording prove that Jin is in fact dead? Seems that way to me. Take a look.

Ji Yeon

harold_perrineau_lost.jpgI’m back bitches!
The normally intriguing but usually boring Sun and Jin-centric episodes stayed true
to form.  Although the this one was a bit more informative in the off-island details.  First things first though.  Michael’s back.  He is Ben’s man on the freighter.  Now going by the name of Kevin Johnson, not sure if the name has any significance or not, he is apparently playing the role of janitor.  Next week’s episode is entitled Meet Kevin Johnson, so I think it is safe to say that we will definitely get some back story on what has happened to Michael.

As for Sun and Jin, I think we just saw the first combined flashback/flashforward episode.  Jin’s point of view seemed to be from the past, while he was working for Mr. Piak, Sun’s father.  Sun’s was obviously in the very near future, giving birth to their daughter, Ji Yeon.  It is also revealed that Sun is the final member of the Oceanic 6.  That makes Jack, Kate, Hurley, Sayid, Aaron, and Sun as the only ones to make it off the island.  And they are now bound by some sort of coverup.

Let’s get into a few points that may warrant discussion.

  • Jin’s tombstone had a death date of 9-22-2004 on it, the date of the plane crash.  They are obviously trying to cover up that anyone else survived the initial crash.(Remember Jack’s lie at Kate’s trial)
  • Why was Hurley glad that none of the other 6 were coming to visit Sun?
  • When Sayid and Desmond were shown to their room they mentioned something about the boat being anchored and the doctor gave a reply that made it seem as though the it might be.  What’s up with that?
  • By the way whose blood was that on the wall?
  • Is the chick that killed herself suffering from the same condition that George and Desmond suffered from?  It doesn’t seem to be otherwise she have been locked in the sickbay.  Is there some other illness that we have yet to discover?
  • If Michael is on the freighter posing as a janitor then where the hell is Walt?  Was that really him that appeared to Locke?  If so how did he get back to the island with out Michael?
  • The preview for next week promises that someone will die.  Any thoughts on who?
