A Play On Words

Youtube is the basis of a lot of stupid shit. A large majority of the original material uploaded to youtube is made by annoying little teenagers who think the world wants to hear them bitch about how tough life is and say fuck 10 times. Another big majority are people who are really trying to create good entertainment on a budget. Then there’s that small amount of original material that is actually well produced and enjoyable to watch.

This brings me to a couple of videos produced by Radiolab, a nationally syndicated radio program produced in New York City, and broadcast on NPR (Nation Public Radio) stations in the United States. The videos are complex and poignant yet simple and inspiring. The first video was made last year and was simply title “Moments”. The video is a simple look at life and the moments that make it special.

The other and most recent video is entitled, “Words”. It’s a simple and thought provoking play on words. It’s very well cut together and makes you think as you watch it. You will probably have to watch it twice to catch what the filmmaker is doing here. These videos are exceptional and should really inspire the amateur film maker in us all.

By the way, did you catch the eight words that were being described in the video?

Guitar Hero

Yuto Miyazawa is a 10-year-old Japanese guitar prodigy. Yuto started playing the guitar when he was 3 and has primarily learned to play on his own. He’s already done things that most musicians can only dream of. He’s performed on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” twice and “Late Night With Conan O’Brien.” He also performed at Connecticut’s Gathering of the Vibes festival and jammed with legendary guitarist Les Paul. When he was 8 years old, he was named the youngest professional guitar player on the planet by the Guinness Book of World Records.

Now Yuto can add another accomplishment to list long list of goals. He got the opportunity to play along his his musical idol, Ozzy Osborne. Yuto was brought on stage at the August 21 Ozzfest stop in Hartford, Connecticut and joined Ozzy on Crazy Train. Yuto looked like a young Randy Rhoads and even used a black-with-white polka-dotted flying-V guitar that Rhoades was famous for.

Discovering A Classic: Deep Red

Some time ago I bought a double feature horror DVD.  The sole reason I bought the DVD was because it was only a couple of bucks and I love horror movies.  The movies on the DVD were The Satanic Rites Of Dracula starring Christopher Lee and a movie called The Deep Red Hatchet Murders.

Today, months after purchasing the DVD, I popped it into the Blu Ray player. “The Deep Red Hatchet Murders “ was first on the disc so I decided to watch it, even though I had never heard of it.  Turns out it’s an Italian movie from the mid seventies by director Dario Argento.  The movie was originally titled “Profondo Rosso”, but was changed to “Deep Red” for it’s American release. The title has been changed to both “The Deep Red Hatchet Murders” and “The Hatchet Murders” for US DVD releases.

Psycho Tranny Puppets

I’m not sure how a puppet becomes a transsexual. I suppose you remove the splinter and carve out a knot.

Anyway, there’s this brilliant lunatic on YouTube who does a series of videos featuring a transsexual or transvestite (not sure which) puppet named Gay Carrington. Each video features amazing music and visuals, and a bizarre atmosphere that sucks you in. I absolutely love when people do shit like this on YouTube; it’s mysterious, creative, and fun.

Anyway, Gay Carrington released a new video, a parody of Alfred Hitchcock’s 1961 masterpiece Psycho. Carrington himself herself takes over the Marion Crane role, glamming it up considerably in the process. It’s funny, nuts, and oddly inspiring. Check it out:

Seeing Isn’t Necessarily Believing

Sure, CGI is everywhere in films today, but what about television shows? How much of what you see in those hospital dramas and comedies is actually real?

This video shows how many of television’s biggest hits use CGI constantly to enhance or change the background. It’s pretty fascinating to watch:
