California is like that schizophrenic uncle at a family function. You want to help him get better, but then he opens his mouth  and makes you want to kill him.

To the shock and sadness of everyone who loves the ideals of America, the religious right managed to pass Proposition 8, which overturns the right of marriage for gay Americans in California. This comes a mere year after the California Supreme Court ruled that homosexuals have the right to wed and enjoy the same benefits of marriage as straight couples.

It’s amazing to me that, one day after seeing a black man overcome racism to become President, there are still sections of America that consider intolerance and the restriction of freedom for some to be actual core values of this country. For those fucking religious retards in California – and for any such “Americans” throughout he rest of the country who supported this – let’s go over a few simple “truths” about America:

(1) America is supposed to be a place of freedom for everyone. No, not just for white non-atheists. EVERYONE. I really don’t want or need to know what is going on in my neighbor’s bedroom; they could fuck badgers and I still wouldn’t care. What goes on in someone’s life is their business, not mine. It’s not my place to judge them or legislate them. Because I live in America, a place of freedom for everyone.

(2) America is supposed to be a place where the church stays out of state affairs. Proposition 8 was nothing more than religious legislation, designed to impose the religious doctrines of one group on the behaviors, feelings, and RIGHTS of others.

(3) America is supposed to be a place of freedom for everyone. Yes, I said it twice. That’s because freedom is the basic foundation upon which this country rests. It shocks me how far removed we are from the tenets of the Constitution. For example, The Founding Fathers began this country in a fight over taxation, yet the government now taxes her people more than she ever has in the past. Strange, isn’t it?

The beginnings of America allowed for a mixture of religious and scientific thought, and expanded to some degree to allow for views like atheism and such. But what those Founding Fathers wrote in the Constitution allowed for SO MUCH MORE than simply those types of freedoms. They said that ANYTHING is possible, as long as it does not harm or encroach the rights of another. And as society has expanded and changed, that right to freedom as first defined has been tested again and again.

Unfortunately, we’ve spent the years since the writing of the Constitution undermining that simple, powerful message of freedom.

Think about it – in AMERICA, we “allowed” equal rights to women only in the last 100 years, and “granted” equal rights to blacks in the last forty years. The personal right to have an abortion, while currently legal, continues to come under fire. And with the passage of legislation like Proposition 8, we see that there are currently people in AMERICA who cannot have an equal opportunity to fulfill their own lives due to someone else’s “morality” and judgements.

For me personally, I do not want to marry a dude. For me personally, I am against abortion. However, someone else has the right to choose what’s best for them. I have the right to refuse it; they have the right to choose it. If I managed to impregnate a girl, I would be against aborting the fetus, no matter how much damage my genetic material would do to the food chain. But someone else might choose differently, and in AMERICA, that should be the case.

I have no idea why these religious fucktards feel the need to legislate and dictate how someone else needs to live their lives. It’s a truly stomach-turning development, a huge step backward in the maturing of the freedom first defined so long ago.

NOTE TO PROPOSITION 8 SUPPORTERS: Jesus ate and drank with tax collectors, whores, and the wicked Pharisees. He tried to teach them via examples of love and patience, not hatred. And in the case of the Pharisees, he allowed them to make their own decisions without recriminations.

It’s time you started behaving like your so-called Master. Preach to yourself before you preach to others, you fucking hypocrites.
