Several years ago, Chris, Eric, and myself planned out a BLAIR WITCH-style film that would (supposedly) document an actual haunting/possession.
Now it’s been done. Watch the trailer for PARANORMAL ACTIVITY:

Looks good.
According to Variety, Dreamworks has just purchased the independent film for seven figures at the recently-concluded Slamdance Festival.
Damn, I’m dumb.

Goddamn! We are fucking idiots.
This does look pretty good.
Hey, guys, if you have other ideas for movies, let me know. Mark
Mark, we have a billion other ideas and several scripts. If you have any money, let us know. Ray.
Hey guys. We should do this. Oh fuck it’s too late.
Who thought this was bad idea again?
Oh well another idea that we didn’t do, because, well I’m not actually sure.
If you guys have a good script, get it out there!
@ medavidson – It’s an easy thing to say, “Get it out there!” Unfortunately, Hollywood still operates within a highly-walled social structure that prevents many great scripts from being seen and produced. You typically must “know someone” in order to even get an agent and begin the process of soliciting your script.
I do believe, however, that the internet and sites such as YouTube have levelled the playing field a bit in this regard. A person might be able to sell an idea if they can create a stir using some alternative method of advertising. However, some ideas are easier to promote in this format (for instance, horror movies like PARANORMAL ACTIVITY) than others.
Well, fellas, I agree with that general assessment. Generally, So if what you have is quality, polished, production ready, etc., YOU CAN get it out there. Trust me on this. If it sucks, it ain’t gonna happen. Also trust me on this: if you’ve got good shit, Hollywood will beat a path to your door. BEAT A PATH. No shit.
You guys are (for the most part) pretty good writers already. So I say you guys come up with a posting called “Movies The Rec wants to make” and then you throw out a few log-lines and lets throw darts at ‘em.
Just a thought.
Hugs
Mark
Good idea, Mark.
Yeah, that’s a great idea if you want your stuff stolen.
And we don’t.
Gotcha!
Of course you can register it w/ the WGA. You wanna do that if you think you’ve got something. I might suggest a poor-mans copyright, as well. Mail it to yourself certified, don’t open it.
Mark
I’m no thief! Well, not any more, anyway…
