With the most recent Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominees being announced. I realized that a lot of great artist have been getting the snub. So, I ask you who deserves to go in? Here are some of my choices.
Metallica – This was the first year that they were eligible and they didn’t even get nominated. What the fuck.
Willie Nelson - It may be call the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but all genres of music are represented. Hank Williams and Johnny Cash are in, so how do they leave Willie Nelson out. He is was of the greatest songwriters of all time and he is also one of the most genuine singers ever to be recorded.
Tina Turner – She is in as a duo with Ike, but I think she deserves to go in as a solo artist. Her gritty, sexy voice and her amazing performances alone should be enough to get her in. It seems to me that she had more hit singles than Isaac Hayes and he’s in.
Dolly Parton – One of the greatest country singers of all time. How can they ignore songs like Coat of Many Colors, Jolene, I Will Always Love You, Here You Come Again, and 9 To 5. She is a legend and the only country female in is Brenda Lee.
Kiss - Like them or not, they are one of the most successful rock bands of all time. Their songs may be dumb, but at the same time they are fun rock anthems.
Ozzy – Ozzy career may be a joke now, but when he first went solo be produced some great heavy metal songs. He career has held up and he is the Godfather of Heavy Metal. The should be in.
Patsy Cline – Like Dolly Parton, I don’t know how they miss her. She is one of the originators of the traditional country sound. She did things in music that most woman just couldn’t do and she did it in a short time.
Judas Priest – These guys were one of the most influential metal bands of all time. They also created the classic metal look.
Carly Simon – She was one of the most popular artist of the 70′s. Her music was straight from the heart and she held no punches. Her influence on woman singer/songwriters alone should have made her a lock by now.
Journey - Don’t laugh. For about 14 years, they were one of the biggest and best rock and roll bands in the world. They were kind of like an America version of Queen. Only less gay.
Genesis – This band was on top of the world for 3 decades, with both Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins. Again how do you overlook a band like this. I mean fuck, Jackson Browne is in.
Boston – They have the fastest selling debut album of all time. The epitomized the arena rock sound.
Doobie Brothers – Great musicianship, great songs, great band. They should be in.
Heart - The greatest female duo in music. They rock as hard as any other band in the 70′s. The song writing was perfect. You can’t beat Ann Wilson’s soulfully powerful voice and the great guitar playing of Ann Wilson.
INXS - These guys were the next Rolling Stones. The only difference, they may have been better. They were huge around the world thanks to Michael Hutchence’s charisma the bands great song writing. This band would have probably been even bigger than they were had Hutchence’s not hung himself.
Eurythmics – They were one of the most successful duo’s of the 80′s. Their sound was a mix of pop, rock, r&b, and soul. They were not as big in the U.S. as they were in the rest of the world, but their influence should not be denied.
Quiet Riot – These guys created the 80′s glam rock sound later known has hair metal. For good or bad, they deserve to be in.
Ministry - Ministry are the granddaddy’s of Industrial rock. Without them, you would not have bands like the Nine Inch Nails, (who will go in. )
Duran Duran – You couldn’t get away from Duran Duran in the 80′s. They were everywhere, MTV, radio, on t-shirts, and posters. They were the brought the new sound to the mainstreen and made it popular.
Loretta Lynn – Like Dolly and Patsy, she was one of the top female artist in a male dominated country music scene. She was tough as nails and her songs were at time controversial. She should be in.
You agree or disagree? Or do you think I missed somebody? Add them in the comment section.

Don’t they have a Country Music HOF for Dolly Loretta and Patsy? How much Rock have any of these performers really done?
I will agree with Priest, Genesis, and Eurythmics.
Oh yeah, maybe Willie too.
Of course I will say Eurythmics.
Beyond them, I agree with Chris that Genesis and Priest go in. Also Metallica, Carly Simon, and Tina Turner.
The rest could be argued in one way or another. Some are more country then rock. Some had a narrow spectrum of influence or skill level. I mean, Duran Duran and INXS had some great songs and popular albums – for about three years. Does that alone make them worthy??
@ Chris – Yeah some of those choices are country, but they put country artist in the RnR HOF. So if you are going to put in country artist, then you have to but in Dolly, Willie, and Loretta.
The one band that is one of the most innovative and talented of all-time is Chicago. It is not the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame without them.
Can anyone explain why the following three groups are not worthy to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?
1. America
2. Chicago
3. The Guess Who
Yes, country & western does not belong in the
R & R Hall of Fame.
Someone will need to explain to me how CHICAGO can be considered “one of the most innovative bands of all time.”
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame appears very biased as well as sexist when they have FAILED to name some of the most influential artists in the history of music……
They need to revise their selection process and I would love 3 consecutive years of only FEMALE honorees… Also, how can Brenda Lee be inducted and not Dolly Parton, Donna Summer or Barbra Streisand? Madonna and not Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey?
Where is Donna Summer, Carly Simon, Linda Ronstadt, Dolly Parton, Reba McEntire, Barbra Streisand, Tina Turner, Cher, Annie Lennox, Whitney Houston, and Mariah Carey ?
For some reason, Aretha Franklin gets recognized for many of the greatest lifetime achievement awards before others and some other females go unrecognized. Nothing against The Queen of Soul, but the Queen of Disco (Donna Summer), Queen of Country (Dolly Parton), Queen of Hip-Hop (Mary J. Blige), and Queen of Rock (Tina Turner-not recognized individually) have yet to recognized!!!
Whoever is voting needs to seriously “wake up” and be consider of the longevity of many of the best artists, especially female ones of all-time.
Message to the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame for 2010:
Please recognize the following:
Barbra Streisand
Donna Summer
Dolly Parton
Whitney Houston
Mariah Carey
Carly Simon
Linda Ronstadt
Tina Turner
Cher
Reba McEntire
Annie Lennox
Thank you!
You forgot three major omissions…
1. Rush
2. The Moody Blues
3. Alice Cooper
1. The HOLLIES — long overdue. Not seeing them there is a slap in the face to all of them, but especially Graham Nash.
2. Chicago.
3. The Moody Blues
4. The Guess Who.
It seems as though most of the middle of the road rock bands of the 70′s are tossed out in the trash heap. I don’t think KISS should be in but do believe that RUSH, Foreigner, Heart, Journey, Boston, Styx, and the Guess Who should be in the R&R Hall, though I do realize that they don’t stand a chance. The Hall is a joke anyhow. Madonna didn’
t even perform for her induction ceremony. I agree that Dolly, Kenny Rogers, Willie Nelson and other country artists don’t belong there.
Todd Rundgren. Not only one of the most prolific and innovative singer/songwriter/musicians of all time, but also the producer of many great albums, including one of the all time biggest sellers, Bat out of Hell, by Meatloaf.
Don’t forget Leon Russell. Of the the (if not THE) biggest live act(s) in the early 70′s.
Performer, sideman (Wrecking Crew), song-writer, producer, cross-genre.
It is a sham that Cheap Trick is not in the Hall of Fame!!
I believe folks are losing interest in the R&R Hall of Fame. Since all of the early rockers are now in, the rest of the non-inducted bands and performers will be chosen by an elite bunch of old critics, writers and performers that are way out of touch! I agree, how did Jackson Browne make it in? And RUN DMC? Were you knuckleheads HIGH when you made these decisions? Fan popularity doesn’t seem to mean much to the voters in the hall of fame. Just a bunch of elitists that are self important narcissists.
Eurythmics! Innovative — incredibly so. Influential, obviously. These are the stated criteria. The greatest female vocalist ever in a rock group. Plus great songwriting, stellar live performances. Longevity. Annie Lennox’s solo work. What more do they want? This list surpasses many of those already inducted. It is very strange that they are overlooked….
How can you not even mention YES? One of the most innovative and original Bands in Rock history, sold millions upon millions of albums and have survived 40 years of touring.
Innovation
Quality
Popularity
They more than meet all of the criteria..
Yes, many of the above certainly are overlooked. Here’s my big 3:
Johnny Rivers-the guy was so solid in the early 60′s and had many hits.
Tommy James & the Shondells-A lot of hits and this band inspired more “garage bands” than anybody else!
Loggins & Messina-One of the biggest duos ever in rock and roll.
How about some of the great songwriters like Jimmy Webb and Laura Nyro?
WTF?
How come no Little Feat, Jethro Tull, Moody Blues???
But they select Madonna!! Is this the Disco Hall of Fame?
Looking at their other selections like Nat King Cole (sang beautifully but never ROCKED), why not Frank Sinatra or Ella Fitzgerald?? Ella is sweet!
Are you people serious? How in the world is DURAN DURAN not ? Have you seen some of the bands in the hall of fame? I know garage bands that are better than some of those bands in the hall of fame. How DURAN DURAN is not in the hall of fame is far beyond me!!!!!!!
CHICAGO IS INNOVATIVE BECAUSE THEY COMBINE ROCK WITH JAZZ, BIG BAND, AND R & B…THEY MAKE USE OF ALL FOUR FAMILIES OF INSTRUMENTS: STRINGS, PERCUSSION, WOODWIND, AND KEYBOARD….ON THE SINGLES SIDE, CHICAGO HAS HAD OVER 50 TOP 100 HITS, OF THAT,37 TOP 40 HITS, 21 TOP TEN HITS, AND 3 NUMBER ONE HITS…BILLBOARD NAMED THEM THE BEST SINGLES BAND OF THE 70S…IN THE COMBINED 70S AND 80S, THEY HAVE HAD MORE TOP 10 AND TOP 40 HITS THEN ANY OTHER BAND..THEY WERE BAND OF THE YEAR IN 1970 AND 20 YEARS LATER THEY HAD THE BIGGEST HIT OF THE YEAR OF 1989, “LOOK AWAY”…THEY RANK NUMBER FOUR BEST SINGLES BAND ALL TIME BEHIND BEATLES, STONES, AND BEACH BOYS…SECOND ALLTIME AMONG AMERICAN BANDS..ON THE ALBUM SIDE, CHICAGO HAS 22 GOLD ALBUMS…OF THAT, 18 ARE PLATINUM…OF THAT, 8 ARE MULTI-PLATINUM…AND 5 WERE NUMBER ONE…HOW MANY BANDS HAVE HAD FIVE NUMBER ONE ALBUMS …CHICAGO IS ONE OF THE TOP 7 AMERICAN BANDS FOR ALBUM SALES
Rush and Yes. How can those two bands not be included?
Critics hate prog rock, I know. But those two bands are more deserving than about half of the inductees of the last twenty years. And they added Genesis this year…
Rush, Rush, Rush!!! Are you frikkin’ kidding me?
Country acts and pop acts are not part of rock history.
Barbra Streisand
Donna Summer
Dolly Parton
Whitney Houston
Mariah Carey
Carly Simon
Cher
Reba McEntire
Annie Lennox
and Willie Nelson are not rock should never make the Hall.
Rush on the other hand really are a rock band and arguably the most important band in rock history. What gives?
We hate Rush, that’s what gives. HATE THEM.
Rush, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Alice Cooper, Tom Waits, Boston, Ministry, KISS, Scorpions, Ronnie James Dio, Slayer, Megadeth, The Cars, Devo
Not one of these should be ommitted if someone like Madonna makes it in.
Give it up for Eddie Trunk from That Metal Show on VH1…he rallies on this topic on a lot of episodes. He recently had Rush and Alice Cooper on and said “Rock nRoll Hall of Fame..Are you f’in kidding me” pointing to the ommitted rock gods.
Priceless. Good work Eddie.
